Tommy Largo – At A Different Tempo (Previews)
Feb 11th
Here’s some dope azz music for the heads out there. Tommy Largo has given us some super dope hip hop, trip hop, get down and dirty jams with the release of “At A Different Tempo”. I can’t wait to drop this at the next chill party or backyard bbq.
**UPDATE** BPM Sessions out of Atlanta will host Tommy Largo next month on the 4th of March. For more info head over to BPM Sessions. Tell’em Urban Fabric sent ya! Ken_UF
Here’s the info from the label:
Best known for his house music productions, Tommy Largo has always made down-tempo and hip hop beats over the years, but never released any of it. After listening to some of his old tapes and hearing fellow house producers making slower tempo tracks, he decided it was time to make some fresh sounds – the aptly titled ‘At A Different Tempo’ project was born and eagerly snapped up by Chicago based label Alphabet Music.
Tommy’s initial idea was to do 3 or 4 tracks to fill an EP, but after the first few tracks turned out so well, he decided to “go the distance” and make a full album. Alphabet Music have always been fans of trip hop and down-tempo – label boss Ken Christensen, “it was the perfect blend of neck-snappin’ beats with a soulful vibe, it reminded us of J Dilla’s production style and we knew we had to have it.” Fans of Mr Scruff, Grand Central and Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz project should take note – indeed the San Fran DJ included 2 of Tommy’s album tracks on the recently released seventh instalment of the popular mix series.
Hailing from Arnhem in The Netherlands, Tommy Largo has been well known as a producer of underground house music since debuting on Lost My Dog in 2005. He has gone on to record for labels including Guesthouse, Kolour, Control and Tango. His rise as a DJ has matched his production career and established him a busy worldwide schedule.
‘At A Different Tempo’ will be available as a digital download, both as a mixed version for the listeners and individual tracks for DJs. Two remix EPs will feature some of the finest house and nu disco producers of the moment – Mark & Stevens, Dave Allison, Your Only Friend, Corduroy Mavericks, Thomas Sahs, Black Lodge, Giano, Mark Veloce and Nu Jak Freqs.

Everything You Wanted 2 Know About The Amplifetes
May 7th

The Stats (aka Bio)
Being accomplished songwriters and producers on their own, the members have worked with names such as Kelis, Madonna, Grandmaster Flash and Peter Bjorn and John. While having occasionaly crossed paths during the course of their careers, they have existed as a unit for about a year. The band think of themselves as a dreamteam collaboration of their influences – listing 60s Psychadelia, The Electric Light Orchestra, The Ramones, Elvis Costello, David Bowie and Chicago Trax Records House releases.
The highly addictive result can be heard in The Amplifetes debut single “It´s my life”, a spitting image of urban life and a happy three-part marriage between garage pop, electro and punk. It was featured recently in a promo campaign for Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli, starring a lightly dressed Milla Jovovich, creating quite a stir over europe.
The framework for the production of material for The Amplifetes debut work was very much dictated, while not restricted, by geography and time. Due to the bandmembers being set up in two different cities, most of the writing and recording interaction took place late nights over the internet.
In fact, it was not until the final mixing sessions that the full band actually met! This created a very special atmosphere for the creative process, described by lead singer Peter as “a feeling of weightlessness, like being trapped inside a bubble of soft stone.”
The faceless communication and stillness of night formed the backdrop for the emerging of The Amplifetes debut album, which has just been completed and is scheduled to hit the stores in early April. They have also been developing their live act and are booking now to tour the world in 2010.
